Eli’s On Whitney Hamden CT
A longtime favorite of locals since 1994 and named after the famed CT inventor Eli Whitney
Larger inside than you’d think from the outside, this restaurant contains a dining section and bar section.
Not too dark as far as taverns go, at least not during our daytime visit, this tavern boasts a fairly large horseshoe bar and is known for casual American fare with flair, craft beer, full service bar, and large easy to view TVs for sports, etc.

$42.54 for two Relic DIPAs and two sandwiches so basically a $50 lunch for two.
We both had the Santa Cruz Sandwich. Which is a grilled chicken breast with pepperjack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato and chipotle aioli served on a ciabatta roll. One with jalapenos, one without.
Delicious however, tall, hard to get a good bite into without pushing the middle out of the stack, and then much chewing to do until your jaw is tired. As it is said your mileage may vary.
Good stop for lunch if you’re in the area and and want great beer and upscale tavern fare.
Known for the atmosphere, the food, and being a college bar.
